Montreal Church Celebrates Nelson Mandela’s Life

Mandela visited the Union United Church during his visit Montreal in 1990 in part because it had a committee dedicated to the fight against the apartheid regime in South Africa.

James United Church, should be more of a celebration of his life than a mourning of his death. “Nelson Mandela brought people together around the world and I think the celebration tonight will hopefully continue to bring people together,” he said.

He was a tough and demanding but irreplaceable boss, she recalls. “He was the most incredible person to work for and I think my biggest crisis is now, how will I ever find someone like that to work for again? Whatever I do, I’m never going to be satisfied. I have to say he wasn’t a pushover. You couldn’t convince him of anything: if he made up his mind about something, he stuck to that.
