It may well be a rather conventional though lengthy biopic but it does a great job in celebrating a remarkable man. Coming so soon after Mandelas death it has even more resonance, and there is much to appreciate in its determination to compress his autobiography. And the movie-makers dont shy away from more uncomfortable aspects of his life, such as his womanising and failed first marriage. Director Justin Chadwick never tries to overcomplicate the story, instead presenting his life in a straightforward manner.

Getting The Wire, going from not having a job to getting a massive job on HBO, was one ofthe best moments of my life.
